Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat is home to 50 large cats and other animals. We invite you to browse our web site and introduce you to some of our animals so you may know their heartrending stories and find out what we're doing to help these wonderful creatures.
Visiting the Sanctuary is a privilege we extend to our members. To make your visit a happy experience for you, your family and for the animals, we must have rules. Failure to comply with these rules can result in loss of membership. Thank you for your cooperation. Read rules on website.
The mission of Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat is to provide a home for abused, abandoned, retired, and injured large felid's, exotic and domestic non-human animals.
We give the best available diet, housing, veterinary care and positive human interaction. Valley of the Kings educates the general public concerning the bond between human and non-human animals in the natural world.
We also teach that private and commercial ownership, hunting for profit or sport, and the destruction of natural habitat will mean eventual extinction for these creatures. Bob's House For Dogs - Pet Therapy Visit
Syverson Lutheran Assisted Living Home
816 Porter Avenue
Eau Claire, WI 54701-3880
Our pet therapy bring joy to all the residents and patients in facilities we visit. The joy the patients experience is immeasurable. Our volunteers are so committed to this program.
Along with therapy, our center provides one-on-one loving care, and adoptions in addition to the space and comfort of a home. All too many dogs are terrified and confused at shelters, which can make their chances of adoption almost zero. The seniors are especially stressed at finding themselves abandoned at this stage of their life. We hope that their time at Bob's House will alleviate some of their anxiety, and prepare them for their forever families. We house twelve dogs at a time, while hopefully having a steady rotation of animals, as adoptions take place. See how you can help this wonderful organization at http://www.bobshousefordogs.org/

Beth Finke and Hanni: An Author Visit
Wisconsin Humane Society: Classrooms One
Wisconsin Humane Society
4500 West Wisconsin Avenue,
Milwaukee, WI 53208
Author Beth Finke and her guide dog, Hanni, are visiting the Wisconsin Humane Society! During her hour-long presentation, she will discuss her children’s book, Hanni and Beth: Safe and Sound, about the very important work Hanni does to help Beth each and every day. Beth will also provide an opportunity for questions and answers for those in attendance.
About Beth Finke: NPR commentator Beth Finke is an award-winning author, teacher and journalist. She also happens to be blind.
Her children's book about Seeing Eye dogs -- "Hanni and Beth: Safe & Sound"-- was published by Blue Marlin Publications in Fall, 2007. Beth's memoir, "Long Time, No See" was named one of the Chicago Tribune's favorite non-fiction books for 2003 and made the Book Sense 76 Top Ten list of university press books.
Beth's essays air on the Morning Edition segment of National Public Radio, and her piece about the World Champion White Sox on Chicago Public Radio won awards in journalism excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association. These awards gave Beth some pretty nichey notoriety: she's the only blind woman in America to be honored for sports broadcasting.
